Wednesday, May 1, is the date for Chamber Day 2013 — be sure to mark your calendar!

The USC Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber, located on the campus of the USC Wrigley Marine Science Center at Big Fisherman Cove at the West End of Catalina Island, is an emergency medical facility for the treatment of scuba diving accidents. For the past 25 years, Chamber Day has helped raise funds to support and maintain the Chamber, keeping it ready 24 hours a day for divers in need. The 2012 event raised $134,783.

The Chamber’s contract from Los Angeles County provides a little over 50 percent of the Chamber’s annual budget needs. The annual Chamber Day contributions from divers, clubs, shops, manufacturers, organizations, publications and dive boat operators provide a significant portion of the remaining budget.

Some of southern California’s finest dive boats donate their services for the day. Participating boats in previous years have included (in alphabetical order): Cee Ray, Giant Stride, Magician, Mr. C, Pacific Star, Riviera, Sand Dollar, Sea Bass, Second Stage, Sundiver, Sundiver Express, Sundiver II, and Westbound.

For a Donation of $90* (2012 donation amount) divers receive:

  • Two (2) Dives at Santa Catalina Island
  • A tour of the USC Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber
  • A Chamber Day 2013 Commemorative T-shirt
  • Five (5) Chamber Day 2013 Raffle Tickets
  • A chance to talk to Local Search and Rescue Personne
