Dive industry personality, ocean adventurer, marine conservationist and television personality Mehgan Heaney-Grier has joined the new documentary web series, A Rising Tide, created and produced by NewFocus Films of Lafayette, CO.
This unique web-based series, just released, features 18 web episodes told from the students’ perspective as they break the barriers of classroom walls and embark on a voyage of discovery.
“A Rising Tide is a web-series combining the intimacy of video blogging and the journalism of documentary filmmaking. Heaney-Grier will serve as series host, expedition guide and mentor to the students. Mehgan has been making waves since 1996 when she established the first U.S. freedive record for men and women. More recently Mehgan was Divemaster on an elite team of explorers for the Discovery Channel series, Treasure Quest: Snake Island. Mehgan holds a degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and through mentoring and her work with a variety of nonprofit organizations, her career has been dedicated to exploration, science and ocean conservation.
“We have to use everything we’ve got, all of our superpowers to inspire and ignite in youth a love, excitement and curiosity for nature,” said Mehgan. “Preserving the health and integrity of our vital, wild places is up to each of us. The more we can share and experience together, the more prepared and empowered these students can become to take on the challenges facing our ocean environment today and in the future. One of the best things that we can do to help our ocean and upcoming generations is to lift up and inspire each other.”
Throughout their time with A Rising Tide, the students will be learning from leading scientists, conservationists, filmmakers and other experts, who will challenge and expose them to new ideas and concepts. For the web series viewer, there is the promise of adventure, raw experience, and newfound knowledge on this journey of discovery as the students expand their minds and discover the wonders of the underwater world.
