The Monterey Shootout, one of the California’s most popular underwater photography competition and underwater film festival, returns August 8-10. The shootout is presented by NCUPS – the Northern California Underwater Photo Society.
Diving photography and video takes place during the first 32-hours of the competition, and all digital photos and video must be taken from dives during this 32-hour period along the Monterey coastline. All levels of underwater photographers and videographers are welcome, with categories for beginner, intermediate, and advanced shooters. Weekend competition passes start at $75.
A panel of judges, comprised of world-renowned professional underwater photographers and filmmakers, will select the winners in each category. Seminar presenters and judges include Ethan Daniels, Berkeley White, Mary Lynn Price, Jim Decker, and Joel Penner. More than $25,000 in prizes will be awarded this year.
The Monterey Underwater Film Festival will be held at the Golden State Theatre. Film festival presenters include Adam Ravetch, Dr. Sylvia Earle, Cristian Dimitrius, and Erick Higuera.
