2013 Monterey Shootout Honorable Mention: Advanced Wide Angle Traditional by John Trone

Registration for the 2014 Monterey Shootout is now open, with categories for all levels of photographers. Great prizes will be rewarded to the winners of the different categories.

New underwater photographers are encouraged to join the beginner competition level. Photographers who have shot underwater for more than 50 dives and have received three or less prizes (1st, 2nd or 3rd) in underwater photography are encouraged to join the intermediate competition level. Finally, if you have received four or more prizes (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) in competition before, you are encouraged to join the advanced competition level.

The early registration prices are as follows:

  • Photo only competitor                               $75  (before July 15)    $90  (after July 15)
  • Video only competitor                                $75  (before July 15)    $90  (after July 15)
  • Photo and Video competitor                     $85 (before July 15)     $100  (after July 15)
  • Sunday Seminar Guest Pass                     $10 (before July 15)      $15  (after July 15)

In the video competition, the best video will be rewarded no matter what type of camera is being used.

2013 Monterey Shootout 3rd Place Winner: Advanced Wide Angle Traditional by Clinton Bauder

The competition begins on August 8th, 2014 at 11:00am. Also on August 8th, there is a photo and video seminar. Finally, during the nighttime, there is a cocktail party that starts at 6:30pm.

The next day August 9th, is when the official photo drop off happens. This will take place from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Late image drop off will be from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. On Saturday, the Monterey Underwater Film Festival also takes place from 7:30pm to 10:00pm.

Finally on Sunday, there are two photo seminars and the winners show and prize selection will begin at 3:00pm.

Marine naturalist, scuba diver, and award-winning wildlife filmmaker, Adam Ravetch, will showcase some of his recent underwater cinematography at this year’s Monterey Underwater Film Festival, held at the Golden State Theatre. This will be an amazing festival that you don’t want to miss!

Ticket price will be $15.00 and children under12 will be $10.

Northern California Underwater Photographic Society, also known as NCUPS, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed in 1957 to promote interest in underwater photography.
