Beneath The Sea, billed as the nation’s largest consumer dive show, ended Sunday evening after a busy, well-attended 3-day run. This year’s show marked the 39th anniversary of the Beneath The Sea show and featured more than 400 exhibitors and 70 seminars and workshops. The show was held at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, New Jersey.
In addition to displays by well-known companies such as TUSA, Bluewater Photo, ScubaPro, GoPro, and Fourth Element, the show celebrated Jean-Michel Cousteau as Legend of the Sea and Alese and Mort Pechter as Dive Pioneers. Capt. Di Dieter was honored as this year’s Northeast Diving Pioneer, and six women – Wendy Benchley, Cecilie Benjamin, Amanda Cotton, Meg Donat, Lieutenant Grace Landers, and Amy Slate – were inducted into the women’s Diving Hall of Fame.
Notable presenters included author Bernie Chowdhury, author of The Last Dive; famous wreck diver John Chatterton and author Robert Kurson (author of Shadow Divers); Tech diver, instructor and consultant Jeffrey Bozanic; Dan Orr, 2014 Inductee into the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame; photographers and authors Michael Salvarezza and Christopher Weaver, and of course Jean-Michel Cousteau.
