Method, producer of environmentally-safe cleaning products, has just introduced the world’s first bottle made with ocean plastic. The bottles will contain dish and hand soap, and are available at Whole Foods Market and at their website at methodhome.com.
Method’s new bottles are made with a blend of plastics recovered from the ocean and post-consumer recycled plastic. No color is added – the color of the bottles is a deep gray color as a result of blending all of the original colors of plastics together. The ocean plastic is hand-collected by Method employees from beaches of Hawaii.
“Through this new + innovative use of recovered ocean plastic, we hope to show how design can be used to tackle environmental problems. we’re not saying that the solution to the ocean plastic problem is making bottles out of trash, but by doing so we can prove that there are alternatives to using virgin materials – like PCR plastic, which we use in all of our bottles. by recycling + reusing existing plastic, we can turn off the tap. and that is the first, most important step toward improving the state of our oceans.”
