Michael Bear, founder of the Sevengill Shark Sightings website, has created an Android app which allows divers to log encounters with *any*shark directly from their Android smart phones. The app, called Shark Observers, is free of charge and will soon be available on Google Play. (It is available now from App Geyser here).
Information logged with the app ends up in the Shark Observation Network database. Visitors to the website at www.sharksonline.net can then view other people’s sightings. Divers, marine biologists and naturalists around the world also have access to the data.
The Shark Observation Network is a partnership of the Greenland Shark and Elasmobranch Education and Research Group (GEERG) and the BIOAPP. The goal is to help facilitate communication between people sharing a common interest for one or many species.
Be a part of this exciting project and report any shark sightings you have while diving! To view and download the app, click here.
