Fans of the Robert Kurson book “Shadow Divers” may enjoy hearing that his latest book, “Pirate Hunters”, is available today.

“Ten years ago, I published SHADOW DIVERS, the true adventure of John Chatterton and Richie Kohler’s quest to find a World War II German U-boat sunk off the coast of New Jersey. The book, a runaway New York Times bestseller, sold nearly a million copies and has been translated into 22 languages. Since then, I’ve heard from thousands and thousands of you who loved this once-in-a-lifetime adventure – and the men at the center of it all” says Kurson.

pirate-hunters-bookIn Pirate Hunters, John Chatterton is back – this time with a new partner, John Mattera. These two divers descend on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, where they search for the Golden Fleece, the ship captained by the infamous pirate Joseph Bannister. At large during the Golden Age of Piracy, Bannister was more notorious than Blackbeard, more daring than Kidd. But his story –  and his ship – have been lost to time.

If Chatterton and Mattera succeed, they will make history – it will be just the second time EVER that a pirate ship has been discovered and positively identified.

Mr. Kurson said he’s had an interest in pirates since childhood. He’s been reading pirate books since he was a little kid—particularly The Buccaneers of America, by Alexander O. Exquemelin.

“Once you discover that real pirates are more interesting than fictional ones,” he said, “you can’t look away.”
