PADI® has created a new interactive scuba diving-status map to stimulate the industry and help divers reconnect with PADI Members as soon as possible after stay-at-home orders lift, dive businesses open and diving becomes available. As the effects of COVID-19 spreading and receding from each country evolve, local regulations adapt creating a patchwork of situations that is hard to stay up to date with, even for residents in their own community. The PADI COVID-19 Scuba Diving Status Map gives divers a real-time view of where diving is available and which dive shops are open. The map is designed to help get divers back in the water with their local PADI Dive Center or Resort as soon as they’re able to accept them, and keep divers engaged in learning to support dive businesses in the meantime.
With a simple click or two, divers will gain immediate access to the latest information about diving accessibility and diving restrictions in a particular country, if travel in and out of a country is allowed, if travel within the area is allowed, if PADI Dive Centers and Resorts are open for business and, if so, in what capacity. The map, which is now live and accessible here, is in the process of being populated with data specific to each country, state/province and dive center worldwide.
Given the fluid nature of restrictions related to this pandemic, the crucial information that drives the PADI COVID-19 Scuba Diving Status Map comes directly from PADI Members. To ensure the information in the map is the most accurate on a local level, PADI is asking its global network of dive centers and resorts to input current data about their business and local dive availability, and regularly update this information to keep divers well informed. The process only takes a few minutes and can be updated whenever information and status changes. Pending data collection results, PADI anticipates the map will be released to divers globally by World Oceans Day on 8 June 2020.
PADI Dive Centers and Resorts: Check your email this week for a personal link to update information for your area and business. By completing the online form using the unique link and keeping it regularly updated, you will be ensuring the most accurate information is available to divers seeking the latest on diving with you.
PADI is closely monitoring government regulations globally and, in conjunction with the data provided via the PADI COVID-19 Scuba Diving Status Map, will use geo-location technology to share accurate and relevant local dive opportunities directly with divers.
Embracing technology to its fullest, PADI has developed this tool to ensure the dive industry bounces back stronger and more connected than ever. If you have any questions, please contact your PADI Regional Manager or Training Consultant.
